Police in Danville say that a crash on January 11 caused by the driver driving under the influence crashing into a tree resulted in the death of the vehicle’s passenger. According to investigators, the crash occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. on Riverside Drive.

Officers say the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette driven by Pittsylvania County resident Charles Wayne Barnett Jr. ran off the road and collided with a tree in the median. Police say he was drunk.

Officers also said that Barnett’s passenger, Thomas Gardner Ford, died in the crash.

Barnett was charged with DUI.
