On June 23, Dwayne Jarrett, wide receiver for NFL team the Carolina Panthers, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, minutes before his trial was scheduled to begin.

Jarrett surrendered his driver’s license and was ordered to pay $420 in court costs and perform 24 hours of community service after an appearance in the District Court of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

Jarrett will enter the first stage of the substance abuse policy of the NFL, which means that he will be subject to more frequent drug and alcohol testing.

On March 11, 21-year-old Jarrett was arrested in Mint Hill, a suburb of Charlotte, North Carolina after police say he crossed the center line and ran a red light. According to the police report, he had a blood-alcohol content of .12, above the legal limit of .08.
