As a result of a crash on Saturday, May 24 in South Richmond, two people are dead and a 28-year-old man has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence and felony manslaughter.

According to the authorities, shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, an eastbound truck ran off Snead Road and struck a parked vehicle. The impact caused the car to spin around and strike two people who were standing beside it.

According to police, the truck’s driver, Carmen Alejandro Garcia-Hernandez, made an attempt to leave the scene on foot. However, he was stalled by witnesses until police could arrive.

According to police, 40-year-old Joseph Owens and 44-year-old Catherine Jones were taken to VCU Medical Center, but were pronounced dead there shortly after 1:00 a.m.
