A police officer from Roanoke
has been charged with driving under the influence after wrecking his police
cruiser on the night of Saturday, February 23 in Pulaski County,
according to Virginia State Police.
The wreck occurred on northbound Interstate 81 shortly after 10:00 p.m.
Saturday. According to state police spokesman Sgt. Mike Conroy, state police
had received a 911 call approximately six minutes before the crash concerning
someone driving erratically.
Conroy said that Officer Andrew Page ran off the road and hit a guard rail. The
2005 Ford Crown Victoria, a marked Roanoke police car, he was
driving was totaled in the wreck. According to Conroy, Page, who was in plain
clothes at the time, cooperated with investigators. Court documents said that
he took a breathalyzer test which showed his blood alcohol content to be 0.16
percent, which is double the legal limit of 0.08.
Conroy said that Page received very minor injuries from the wreck and required
no medical attention.
According to Aisha Johnson, a spokeswoman for Roanoke police, Page was suspended and an
internal investigation of the incident is being conducted by the department.
