Actress Sandra Bullock and her husband, Jesse James avoided injury Friday night in Gloucester, Mass. when a drunk driver slammed head on into their chauffer-driven sport utility vehicle, the Associated Press reported.
Lucile Gatchell, 64 of Gloucester was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and failing to stay in a marked traffic lane, said the Boston Globe. A witness driving behind Gatchell saw her vehicle swerving and was dialing 9-1-1 when the vehicle crossed into the path of Bullock’s vehicle on East Main Street.
Gloucester Police Lt. Jerry Cook said both vehicles were traveling 15-20 mph at the time of the collision and were totaled. Cook said Gatchell tested .20 on an alcohol breath test, two and a half times the state legal limit. Gatchell had no previous criminal record, according to Cook.
Bullock and James were being driven by Mark Hussey, of Londonderry, N.H.. Hussey tried to avoid the oncoming vehicle but could not turn out of the way, reported WCVB-TV in Boston.
There were no injuries.
Bullock was filming a movie in the area. She stars in the romantic-comedy "The Proposal," which also stars Ryan Reynolds, Mary Steenburgen and Craig T. Nelson, in Rockport, Mass.
