Minors are especially susceptible to a Virginia DUI in their final year of high school. To protect your children against a Virginia DUI (remember, just one drink can lead to a Virginia DUI), there are a number of steps you can take. Some of these steps include:

  • Communicating - Establish a rule that prohibits your children from driving after drinking alcohol. Inform them about the zero tolerance law, and what consequences they may suffer after a Virginia DUI
  • Supporting community sponsored celebrations - If your community or your child's school is sponsoring a celebration, then have your children attend these celebrations, rather than private parties. Sponsored celebrations will have chaperones to prohibit alcohol at the event.
  • Host your own party - By providing a place for them to celebrate, you can prevent everyone in attendance from consuming alcoholic beverages.
  • Provide transportation - By driving your children to and from a celebration, or by renting a limousine, you can be sure that they won't be charged with a Virginia DUI. Furthermore, The Virginia Limousine Service Association encourages limousine companies to sign a pledge that they will not transport, supply, or allow the use of alcohol by minors while in their limousines.
  • Be a role model - Your own actions will often influence the actions of your children. If you act responsibly, chances are that they will be more inclined to do so.
