After being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, former NBA star Charles Barkley told a police officer that he was in a rush because he was on his way to pick up a “hot” girl for sex, according to a police report obtained by The Smoking Gun.
On December 31, Barkley was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona after he ran a stop sign. According to the notes in the incident report, he allegedly said to the officer, “You want to know the truth? I was gonna drive around the corner and get a b---j--.”
Barkley was pulled over in the Old Town area of Scottsdale and submitted to a blood test administered by the Gilbert, Ohio Police Department.
Barkley released a statement later that day saying that he was “disappointed” to have put himself in that situation and that the Scottsdale police were “fantastic.” He added that it was now a legal matter and that he would not offer further comments until it is resolved.
After being pulled over, the 45-year-old NBA television commentator failed standard field sobriety tests administered by the officer, who smelled alcohol on Barkley. He was then placed under arrest.
After being processed, Barkley was cited and released. According to Gilbert police Lt. Eric Shuhandler, his vehicle was impounded and he left in a cab. Police said Barkley was cooperative and added that it is customary for people to be released after an arrest on suspicion of DUI.
