Former University of Virginia football coach George Welsh faces a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) in Albemarle County Virginia. Welsh's first appearance in Albemarle County General District Court is scheduled for tomorrow morning. After being spotted driving erratically on the U.S. 250 bypass near Charlottesville around 11:45 p.m. Friday, Welsh was pulled over by Albemarle County police, spokeswoman Lee Catlin said. Welsh, 73, was given a field sobriety test. Based on that test, he was charged with DUI and arrested, Catlin said. Welsh also was charged with refusing to take a breathalyzer test, used to determine blood alcohol content. Welsh was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in December 2004. He was inducted into the Chick-fil-A Bowl's hall of fame late last month in Atlanta.
