HAMPTON ROADS -- While corks were popped and air horns blown to ring in the new year on Sunday, on-duty police in Hampton Roads had a quieter night. Many police departments ran extra patrols or sobriety checkpoints to ensure a safe start to 2007, but just seven people were arrested and charged with driving under the influence on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day in Newport News, Hampton, York County, James City County, Williamsburg and Gloucester County.
